Uganda - January 2015
Freekicks.org took it's second mission to Uganda in January 2015, providing multiple coaching sessions and equipment donations in various towns throughout Uganda, as well as a two-day tournament for street child projects in Jinja. The team consisted of Director of Communications - Jo-Ann Bateman, Director of Operations - Justus Mirembe, and Impact Coach Johnson Luyiga. In our Jinja mission, over 100 former street boys joined us for two days of coaching, equipment donation, and a two-day tournament. Uniforms and football boots were shared amongst teams, because many could not afford the equipment. In addition to the football component, Freekicks sponsored HIV screening for two days and we completed the tournament by donating mosquito nets to those in need.
“Jinja Connection had the chance to participate in a 4-day football workshop run by Freekicks earlier this year. It was a great experience for the children we work with who are currently or were formerly living on the streets, to get involved in something they are passionate about! They were able to learn many new technical skills as well as build connections with the Freekicks staff who acted as mentors to them, showing them how bright their futures can be! A great experience was had by all!"

“I'm very impressed with the great work that Freekicks has done for vulnerable youth in Uganda, especially the boys at The Sanctuary - a home aiding street kids in Uganda. Our boys had so much fun learning new skills from their staff and were encouraged by being given the opportunity to play in a tournament with professional teams. Thanks for joining us in our efforts to show our youth that they are loved and important people who deserve to have hope for their future."
